jeans
by teej (copyrighted by teej)

i was gonna wear a dress tonight
i ironed it last night
pressed the wrinkles out
    of my blue-black-red-and-gold taffeta

i would have worn my can-can slip
you know, the one i starch until it stands on its own
    like a runaway lamp shade
    one of those American brands
you know we like it bigger and better
but, i decided to leave it at home
it was too big to pack
and my dress wouldn’t have looked better
    nor would my legs
with the scratches the starched net
        would have left

no, i would have worn something else for you

a slip, with lace down the front
    straight down the center
it would have been nude in colour
but, you wouldn't have liked it
    you couldn’t have seen it
you couldn’t have felt the silk ...
as it clung to my hips
you couldn’t have smelled the warmth
oh, but, if you could have felt ...
if only you could have touched ...
you would have loved it
no, i’ll wear something else for you:
    jeans
    jeans instead of a dress

i hope you don’t mind
