Eulogy
by teej (copyrighted by teej)
Written for a Barbie invitational show comparing the United States under President Bill Clinton and under George W. Bush

Did you know her in the 90's?
Beautiful ...
Promising ...
Alive ...

So many choices
Popular, smart, funny
A little melting pot:
  • Daddy's lightly mochaed skin
  • Mama's full lips
  • Grandpa's slanted eyes
  • Great grandma's curly hair
She was King's dream made flesh
      All children joining hands and
      walking together
      as sisters and brothers
With a new decade
Came a new leader
The Nice Guy
The Right Guy
Praying, protecting the unborn
Upholding the Holy
Crushing the Sinful
UnEducating the masses
      with tales of abstinence

Our beautiful girl became the enemy
  • Too many rice-eating relatives
    Befriending Buddha
  • Too may burka-wearing aunts
    Praying to Allah
  • Too many Berg cousins
    Shabbat Shaloming
The melting pot became ans iron cauldron
The dream became a nightmare
Earning her playmates medals
For killing her cousins

With 9/11
The hatred flourished
And, she could not silence it
The African sun continued to rise in her heart
The craving for HaShem cried out from her soul
No amount of makeup
      could erase the history
      of Colored from her face

The Nice Guy grew in strength
As her promises, her life, her choices
Crumpled under the weight
      of his American dream:
      Ruled by the Right
